In 2018, renowned American Artist Rodger Helt created this beautiful acrylic-glaze painting entitled, "Wilton Manors 1926." Through his mastery of color and spatial dynamics, Helt recreated the view of the iconic entrance to Wilton Manors constructed in 1926. The entrances to Wilton Manors were designed by noted architect Francis Abreu for Wilton Manors' developer Edward Willingham in 1925. The original property-viewing tower and accompanying arches were located at the five-points intersection of Wilton Manors, Florida. The design was inspired by a castle in Spain. Tragically the city demolished the tower in 1957 to make room for an A&W Rootbeer restaurant. Only a few poor-quality black and white photos exist of the original Abreu tower and arches.
Helt spent a year of research to accurately represent the structures. Also an accomplished architectural designer, one of Helt's past creations are the castle-inspired stone entrances to a large subdivision in the Southwest. Saddened when he learned of the original Abreu Tower and it's destruction, Helt sought to recreate and immortalize the iconic entrances in vivid color.
